Wollersheim Winery, like in the Bordeaux Valley

Some will tell you that it’s impossible to grow a vineyard in Wisconsin due to its harsch winter. Not true… Doesn’t it look like France ? Funny anecdote, a French “maitre de chaix”, came at 25yo to make an internship and never came back to France, married the daughter of the family and they are now handling the winery as a familial business for years. They are mainly cultivating red grapes here, but are pressing white wines as well coming from Californian grape juices. One Wisconsin specialty, the icy wine made with grapes that have freezed a little bit (harvest mid december), it gaves to the wine a sweet & delicate taste. They also rewakened the distillery two years ago. Worst the visit and the tastings !
